once love, simon opens the cinematic doors for lgbt rom coms it’s over for hetero bitches

just found out that people are boycotting this movie because the author is straight…….honestly if y’all let this movie flop i’m coming for everyone’s throats! no mercy! this is such a fake woke agenda! love, simon doesn’t deserve this! if y’all wanted to boycott an lgbt movie call me by your name was right there but y’all let that bitch prosper! 

I got to see the movie early and let me just say the film is super fucking cute (though the book is better) and as someone who has spent YEARS of reading/watching LGBT content and developed the skill to immediate detect “Ah, a straight created this,” Love, Simon does not trigger that feeling. There are a lot of very, very cathartic moments in this film that a lot of young (and even older) gay fans can appreciate and relate to. There are weak parts in the film but it’s not really how the gay character is written (probably because the director is an actual married gay man).

It’s a bit cringy–it is a corny teenage romcom after all–but protesting this film is the fakest ~woke thing y’all can fucking do. If your politics can invoke “Cutting off your nose to spit your face,” your politics are bad and you should feel bad.

Go read the book at your local library if you’re so concerned about it being fetishizing or some shit, get an informed opinion. Also, drop literally 90% of LGBT content you’ve read or watched considering how heavily involved cishets are in those productions as well.

Just realize that the studio heads who see LGBT movies flopping won’t take the message, “Next time, let’s let gay people direct!” They’ll just think, “Gay content is still too controversial, maybe we’ll try against in 5 years.” And then in 5 years, another straight content creator will be involved.
